PhD Qualification Exams
Ph.D. Qualification exams are evaluated in two steps:
Written Exam
- The doctoral qualification written exam covers all topics related to the field in which the student will conduct their doctoral research (such as Construction Materials, Structural Mechanics, Geotechnics, Transportation, or Hydraulics) as well as mathematical topics from the courses Calculus for Engineering and Science I, Calculus for Engineering and Science II, and Differential Equations.
- Candidates who score 70/100 or higher on the written exam are eligible to participate in the oral exam. Candidates who score below 70/100 on the written exam will be considered unsuccessful in the doctoral qualification exam.
Oral Exam
- Following the written exam, an oral exam is conducted with the participation of all members of the examination jury. The scope of the oral exam is the same as that of the written exam. The oral exam is recorded by the jury. The oral exam is open to observers.
- Candidates who are eligible to take the oral exam and score 70/100 or higher on this exam will be considered successful in the doctoral qualification exam. Candidates who score below 70/100 on the oral exam will be considered unsuccessful in the doctoral qualification exam.
